Career Transition Talks

MANAGING YOUR CAREER THROUGH T.R.U.S.T.

When it comes to managing your career, you need to be confident with your own abilities (TRUST
yourself), establish processes that will help lead your team to success (TRUST your plan) and build
relationships with your team members to foster a positive work culture (TRUST your team and gain their
TRUST in return). TRUST is not a given, it needs to be earned, nurtured, and developed over time
through words and actions.
The good news is that TRUST can be developed, maintained, and even strengthened with focus on the 5-
aspects of the TRUST Success Model®.
Separately and collectively, each aspect of the “TRUST Success Model” can be developed and become
the foundation of a successful career and/or business.
In this session, participants will:
– Learn how TRUST or the lack of TRUST impacts both individual and organizational success
– Uncover how their actions either contribute to building or deteriorating TRUST
– See how the TRUST Success Model can contribute to both career and team success
– Learn ways to build TRUST that will lead to transformational results for the leader and team
In summary, this program will help leaders understand how developing TRUST is a key to success and
how a lack of it can stunt development for the team, the organization and the leader.

MAXIMIZING LINKEDIN™

BY KEN SHER
Consider how you might use Google to find something of interest to you. When you receive the list of
options, how far down do you go? Do you look at the top 3 listings? The top 5? You probably rarely go
to the second page. That’s exactly the way recruiters and business prospects use the search capabilities
on LinkedIn.
In this interactive session, Ken will teach you ways to get noticed and to move yourself to the first page
of a search. You will learn how to:
– Build and enhance your personal brand

– Strengthen your profile
– See and be seen in your industry
– Find the right job or clients for you and the people who can help you get it

LinkedIn is a key to both personal, professional success as well as team and business success. It’s a must-
have and this talk will show you how to build the strongest profile you can to attract recruiters, hiring
managers, and potential clients.

OVERCOMING AGE DISCRIMINATION

Age discrimination is described as “treating an applicant or employee less favorably because of his or
her age. The Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA) forbids age discrimination against people
who are age 40 or older.”
So, it’s illegal to not offer a job because of age… but we all know that the reality is that it happens. But
the reality, also, is that it’s still possible, and likely, that you will find an opportunity based on your great
knowledge and experience that you’ve gained throughout your career… it just might take a little longer.
This talk will focus on helping you minimize the chance that age will be an issue, how to identify when
the hidden objection of age comes up and how to handle it including:
– Identifying when your age may be an issue
– How the “TRUST Success Model” can help you overcome any challenges
– How to position yourself as the right person for the job
– What to do to take age out of the equation
– What to include… and not include… in your marketing materials and interview answers
This talk will help you see how your experience is an advantage and how you can present yourself
effectively to avoid age discrimination.

TO SURVIVE AND THRIVE AFTER A JOB LOSS

You have a good job that you enjoy and you're feeling pretty good about the direction your career has
gone. Then you get an unexpected call to your supervisor’s office. Sitting and waiting for you is the HR
director. Suddenly, after years of loyal service, you find yourself unceremoniously let go by your
company.
What do you do now? It's not easy, but you can survive and thrive!
The reality is that separations from companies happen, but you can navigate through this stressful time
and get you where you truly want to be.

This presentation will cover:
– The harsh reality of a mid-life job loss
– Restarting your career
– Finding your way to a better life, both professionally and personally
It is never easy to lose your job and to be unemployed. But it is also true that often being let go leads to
something bigger and better. This talk will help you get there.

HANDLING DIFFICULT INTERVIEW CHALLENGES

So, you finally get to the hiring manager of the company you’ve targeted for the last few months and
the interviewer throws the proverbial curve ball at you. “Aren’t you overqualified for this job?” “What’s
your current salary?” “How much would you charge to wash every window in the city?”
You can prepare for these situations and this highly interactive session will help you to do just that.
You’ll learn:
– Effective ways to handle phone interviews
– Tips for Skype interviews
– How to handle the most difficult interview questions or challenges
– What not to say in an interview
To be successful with your interviews, you need to prepare, practice, and have a process to answer
questions. This talk will help you with all aspects of the interview process.

HOW TO WRITE AN ATTENTION-GRABBING RESUME

BY KEN SHER
Although things have changed considerably in the job search world, the resume remains a key
ingredient to getting the opportunities you are looking for. If you’re networking or applying for a
position, your resume will play a big part in getting you a sit-down interview with the hiring manager.
The fact of the matter is you have less than 10 seconds to gain attention with your resume before the
recruiter moves on to the next. In this highly interactive workshop, you will learn how to:
– Position yourself to match your target market
– Write a job summary or business objective that will be found by recruiter searches
– Eliminate resume dangers
– Address resume challenges such as job hopping, gaps in employment etc.…
This talk will present ways that you can write your resume so that it appeals not only to automated
Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS), but to the recruiters and hiring managers who make the final decision
regarding who they will bring in for an interview.

HOW TO GET BACK IN THE GAME

It’s been a while since you last worked outside the home. The past few years have been spent doing the
best, most challenging, and most rewarding job of your life – raising your family; but you’ve decided to
restart your career. Maybe you want to go back to what you were doing before you had children. Or
maybe you want to do something completely different, but where do you start?
It starts with identifying your strengths, areas for development, likes and dislikes that results in the
creation of your personal brand. This is then followed by writing a resume and LinkedIn profile that
catches the attention of recruiters and hiring managers which leads to opportunities in the form of
interviews and job offers.
This presentation will cover all aspects of a complete job search including:
– Developing your personal brand
– Creating a consistent resume and LinkedIn profile
– Using LinkedIn to identify job opportunities
– Preparing for interviews
– Negotiating a job offer
The job market has changed dramatically over the years, especially since 2020, but when you know
what is needed to stand out from the crowd, you will be able to approach your job search confidently
and you will position yourself for success.
